I initially joined Dixon Wilson as a summer intern, after completing an MEarthSci and a DPhil in Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford. I wanted to pursue a professional career in accountancy owing to the variety of opportunities which this offers. The internship was a perfect way to see what working as an accountant was like while changing sector.

Dixon Wilson stood out to me as they operate in both the private client and corporate sectors, and offer the full range of accountancy, audit and tax services. The firm is a friendly and sociable place to work, and so after the internship I was delighted to accept a place on the graduate training scheme

The three year training contract at Dixon Wilson is fast paced, studying for the ACA exams alongside managing client deadlines. Working directly for managers and partners means that you quickly pick up practical skills and technical knowledge which complement your studies, allowing you to take real responsibility for your client work early on.

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) with the additional Audit Qualification, I was promoted firstly to Supervisor, and then to Manager. Since qualifying I have managed my own portfolio of audit, accounts and corporation tax services with UK and Non-UK clients across many sectors including property, investments, financial services, hospitality and distribution.

Dixon Wilson also provides the opportunity for continued professional development post qualification, with flexibility over whether you remain a generalist or specialise. The firm is currently supporting me with my choice to specialise in audit and corporate tax work as I work towards Chartered Tax Adviser status via the corporate route.

I really enjoy my job as the variety of work means that there is always something interesting to deal with and no two days are the same. Working directly with our clients is especially rewarding as you can see the positive impacts of our advice and work as we support clients in running and developing their businesses.
